The brain is a finite-state machine with a complex set of states. Reality is just a subset of state-machines. It takes input and generate output. Sometimes the brain reaches a state that is difficult to escape. This state can be terrifying. It is possible to be stuck in this state for long periods of time; worse forever. A so-called trapped machine.
